The Challenge
A founder arrived mid-build with an unfinished product and a hard deadline. The design work that existed wasn't complete, and what was there didn't have a coherent identity. The brief was essentially: take this over, finish it, and make it look like it was built with intention from the start.
The Objective
Step in as a one-person design team and deliver a complete product — screens, identity, and icon system — that could ship. The founder wanted something that stood apart from the visual noise of mainstream dating apps. Good enough to launch and solid enough to grow.
The Creative Approach
The dating app category was visually aggressive — loud gradients, primary colors, frictionless and disposable by design. I went the opposite direction entirely. Analog warmth: hand-drawn icon aesthetics, motion-blurred photography that felt candid and in-the-moment, a muted luxury palette that communicated exclusivity without shouting it. The design philosophy matched the product philosophy: slow down, focus on one thing, make it feel worth your time. Every visual decision reinforced the idea that this was an app built for people who took dating seriously.

Production Highlights
End-to-end solo production: brand identity, custom hand-drawn icon set, full product screen design from onboarding through matching and messaging flows, photography art direction, and a complete design handoff — all delivered in a compressed timeline by a team of one.
The Impact
The app launched, gained traction in a saturated market, and earned a 4.7-star rating from over 6,100 App Store reviews. Users consistently cite the intentional design — the visual language that signals this is something different. A product built by one designer, in one sprint, that users are still writing five-star reviews about.
